Intensive Dance Training
an Individual Approach
Standard dance classes are designed to give a broad brush approach to the dance and The Jive Club places a strong emphasis on the social aspects of the evening as well as teaching the classes themselves.
We have put together a series of 6 Workshops designed to concentrate on improving your abilities in a more intensive environment with smaller groups of people and a more personal approach to the teaching.
The workshops are designed to appeal to different levels of dancer from the absolute beginner through to the advanced dancer who wishes to improve style and enhance their repertoire. The workshops last approx. 5 hours with regular breaks to avoid fatigue.

Absolute Beginners
A workshop designed for absolute beginners or individuals who have been attending
classes for up to six weeks or for those who are struggling with the absolute basics.
The emphasis is on building the confidence to get up on the dance floor and freestyle.
The workshop will teach some of the basic building block moves in modern jive,
at a slow pace. It will then concentrate on how to mix and match these moves working
on lead and follow techniques.
Beginners / Improvers
This workshop starts where the Absolute Beginners workshop stops and is designed to improve
your repertoire of moves. The workshop is taught at a slightly faster pace. Dancers should be
familiar with the basic moves either through attending the Absolute Beginners workshop
or by coming to at least 6 classes prior to the workshop. This workshop will help provide
a larger variety of moves when free-styling and will also look at your style and technique.
Intermediate
This workshop is designed for people who have over 2 months experience
and are happy with a majority of the beginners moves. If you are able to
freestyle to a whole song and can keep to the beat, then this is suitable for you.
This workshop teaches the basic intermediate moves and progresses
on to some more advanced intermediate moves.
Style
The one thing that separates a good dancer from a great dancer is
not the complexity of the moves but the style and panache with which
even the simplest move is performed. This workshop is designed to improve
your dance style, everything from line and basic rhythm right
through to musical interpretation. We will look at spinning technique,
hitting breaks and even cover some basic triple step footwork.
The workshop will also look at some of the easier drops.
Jumps, Drops and Dips
Add that special something to your freestyle and show off on the dance floor!
From the basic principles, holds and safety points, we cover simple dips
and move on to the more advanced drops and jumps.
The moves in this workshop add style to your dance but concentrate on
the jumps, dips and drops. We also cover musical interpretation of moves.
Double Trouble
Partner dancing looks impressive but dancing as a trio looks really impressive.
This workshop starts with the basic moves of dancing as a group of three and as
the day progresses the moves become more complex.
We cover the principles which make this easier to lead
and follow including signals and position.
By the end of the day you should be more confident to freestyle as a trio.
